S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition – thought through from a finance perspective
Standardised cloud ERP with deep financial control, broad international compliance and a predictable subscription model, designed for companies that value speed and upgradability over deep customisation.
Fit-to-standard, not custom development Pre-configured best-practice processes accelerate implementation and reduce later update risk (clean-core principle).
Predictable releases Two fixed release dates a year instead of unpredictable update cycles.
AI-supported SAP Business AI (Joule) assists with analysis, reporting, and recurring finance tasks.
Deep financial control General ledger, accounts payable/receivable, consolidation, and cash flow management following SAP standard processes.
Native SAP ecosystem Connects to SAP Business Technology Platform, SAP Business Network, and other SAP cloud solutions (e.g. SuccessFactors, Ariba, Concur).
International compliance SAP has one of the broadest country coverages for local tax and regulatory requirements.
Scalable into a larger SAP model As complexity grows, a later move to RISE with SAP or the Private Edition is possible.
Predictable cost Subscription model instead of a large one-off investment in licences and infrastructure.

SAP or NetSuite? An honest decision guide
Similar to our other platform pages – especially relevant here, because GROW with SAP (fit-to-standard, fast implementation, mid-market/new customers) follows the same underlying principle as NetSuite SuiteSuccess:
Leans SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition
Starting point Existing SAP landscape (e.g. ECC) or a clear strategic SAP decision.
Industry depth Strong manufacturing, logistics, and industrial depth, many country localisations.
Extensibility Clean-core principle: extensions deliberately limited to preserve upgradability.
Partner ecosystem Very large, specialised SAP partner ecosystem with long market maturity.
Typical trigger ECC migration deadline, existing SAP group mandates.
Leans NetSuite
Starting point No SAP history, platform-agnostic fresh start desired.
Industry depth Strong depth in software, services, and subscription business models.
Extensibility Broader native customisation options and upgradability.
Partner ecosystem Broad NetSuite partner ecosystem focused on cloud-native processes.
Typical trigger Growth out of a non-ERP or entry-level solution.
We independently assess your existing system landscape and industry requirements in the first conversation.

Cloudmaven & SAP S/4HANA Cloud
Our principle applies to SAP too: we start by advising on your finance processes and existing system landscape, then on the software. Cloudmaven guides you through whether SAP S/4HANA Cloud, Public Edition, NetSuite, or another platform fits your situation – and then takes on the fit-to-standard analysis, licensing strategy, and implementation support.
Because we keep several ERP platforms in view, you get an independent assessment from us instead of a sales agenda for a single product.

Our approach
Implementation of SAP S/4HANA Cloud, Public Edition follows SAP’s official Activate methodology: Discover, Prepare, Explore, Realize, Deploy, and Run. Pre-configured best-practice processes (Scope Items) create transparency from day one and shorten the project timeline compared to classic on-premises implementations.
We also offer a complementary Cloudmaven fit-to-standard workshop, which runs the process analysis from a finance perspective ahead of the actual SAP Activate project.
FAQs
What is SAP S/4HANA Cloud, Public Edition?
The Public Edition is SAP’s standardised, multi-tenant cloud ERP, sold through the “GROW with SAP” package. It’s aimed at companies that prefer pre-configured best-practice processes over deep custom configuration.
Who is the Public Edition suited for?
Mid-market companies and SAP newcomers who want a fast, standardised implementation. Companies with highly complex, individual manufacturing or group requirements are often better served by the SAP S/4HANA Private Edition (RISE with SAP).
What’s the difference between Public Edition and RISE with SAP?
RISE with SAP bundles the Private Edition with SAP Business Technology Platform, SAP Business Network, and AI tools, and is aimed primarily at existing SAP customers who need individual customisation (brownfield migration). The Public Edition, by contrast, consistently follows the fit-to-standard principle with limited customisation (clean core).
What’s the difference between SAP S/4HANA Cloud and NetSuite?
Both follow a similar underlying principle – standardized cloud ERP implementation with pre-configured processes. SAP scores on existing SAP history, manufacturing and industrial depth, and international localization. NetSuite is often the better fit for companies without an SAP past, particularly in software, services, and subscription businesses. We advise you on both platforms independently.
By when do I need to move off SAP ECC?
Mainstream maintenance for SAP ERP 6.0 with Enhancement Packages 0 through 5 already ended in 2025. For most existing customers on Enhancement Package 6 through 8, mainstream maintenance ends in late 2027, with paid extended maintenance available until the end of 2030. We recommend starting migration planning early.
What role does artificial intelligence play in S/4HANA Cloud?
SAP Business AI, in particular the Joule copilot, supports the Public Edition with analysis, reporting, and recurring finance and process tasks, among other things.

If your company has no SAP history, or you’re looking for a platform-agnostic cloud ERP, we also advise on NetSuite. For the mid-market within the Microsoft ecosystem we offer Business Central, for complex enterprise manufacturing Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations, and for companies looking for a particularly modern, AI-native architecture, Everest. For planning, budgeting, and consolidation we complement this with Enterprise Performance Management (EPM), for travel and expense management the Perk platform, and with AI process automation we further reduce manual effort in your finance processes.
